Community Outreach
At McCar Homes, our passion extends beyond building quality homes. Through the Second Mile Program, we are
committed to supporting the communities and charitable organizations that touch the lives of our homeowners,
staff, families and friends. By participating in The Second Mile Program, McCar Homes matches 100 percent of
the dollar amount employees contribute to the charity of their choice. In 2007 alone, McCar Homes employees
elected to have contributions totaling $31,000 withheld from their pay, which will be matched 100 percent by
the company and donated to local and national charities selected by the employees. In addition, employees of
McCar Homes formed The Second Mile Committee to provide volunteer support to these organizations by participating
in charity walks, holding blood drives and collecting toys for disadvantaged children. Because of these programs,
and the charitable contributions of our employees, thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours are donated to
various charities throughout the Southeast each year.
McCar Homes Spring Golf Classic
The 2007 McCar Homes golf tournament was an outstanding success. The series of five tournaments raised $445,572
to charity. Over 800 golfers enjoyed a perfect game of golf made better by raising funds and awareness for The
Paul Anderson Youth Home in Atlanta, Habitat for Humanity in Greenville, Thompson Child and Family Focus in
Charlotte and Greensboro, Hope Children’s Home in Tampa and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Raleigh in Raleigh.
Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta Silent Auction and Cookout
McCar Homes hosted a silent auction and cookout in 2007 to benefit the Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta,
raising over $2,000 for the organization. This nonprofit organization provides support and education to families
who have children with Down syndrome and promotes public awareness and a better understanding of Down syndrome
and individuals with Down syndrome.
Toy Collection
In Atlanta, McCar Homes employees spread a little holiday cheer this past holiday season. Employees collected
toys for over 90 area children who otherwise might not have had any gifts to open on Christmas morning. A group
of employees hosted a Christmas party for the children, personally delivering their gifts and providing lunch
for the children.
Habitat for Humanity
More than 50 employees from the Greenville office donated over 150 volunteer hours in the Fall of 2007 to
construct a 1,300 square foot Habitat house that made the dream of homeownership come true for a single mother
with five children in the Greenville area. McCar Homes also raised over $60,000 to help fund the project.
